Frequently asked questions

Can a U.S. citizen legally own property in Argentina?

Yes — fully and in your own name. Argentina places no general restrictions on foreign ownership of urban residential property. Your deed (escritura) is registered exactly like a local owner's, with the same property rights. Only certain rural border-zone land has special rules, which do not apply to this property.

Where does my money actually go?

Into an escrow account held at a U.S. institution, under an escrow agreement governed by U.S. law. It is a domestic wire from your bank. Funds are released to the seller only when every closing condition is met and the deed is executed. You never wire money to Argentina.

Do I need to travel to Argentina to buy?

No. Closing can be done through a power of attorney signed at an Argentine consulate in the U.S. That said, we encourage a visit — we'll organize a private tour of the property and the neighborhood, and you may find the trip is the best part.

What are the closing costs and taxes?

Plan for roughly 3–4% of the purchase price in combined costs on the buyer's side: notary fees, stamp tax and registration. The dossier includes a line-by-line estimate with no hidden items, and annual property taxes in Argentina are low by U.S. standards.

How do I know the title is clean?

Before closing, the escribano performs a mandatory title study going back decades: ownership chain, liens, mortgages, easements and unpaid taxes. We translate the findings into a written English report you receive before any funds are committed — and your own advisors are welcome to verify it independently.

What does your service cost me as a buyer?

Our fee is included in the transaction and disclosed in writing before you sign anything. No retainers, no surprise invoices — you'll see every number in the purchase agreement.

Can I rent the property out when I'm not there?

Yes. Buenos Aires has a deep dollar-denominated rental market, both long-term and short-term. We can introduce you to vetted property managers as part of the closing handover.
